Fall in love they said… It will make you happy they said… Men will be men they said… Just give it time they said…

They lied!

We have been fed lies about love and relationships from the very first “once upon a time”. Then we get into elementary school and are told boys are only mean to us because they like us. We get to high school and are told to keep our virginity while boys our age are coached to deflower as many of us as possible. As we get older we base our value on the opinions of the men we attract and as men are pushed to chase careers… We are pushed to find a man. See the problem here? We have been programmed wrong!

My dear sisters, you beautiful and majestic visions of beauty. Embrace your purpose first and foremost and align yourself with the lover of your soul before seeking the love of your life. Mistreatment is not the usual, every man doesn’t cheat, you are not “getting up there” and there’s no rush. Why should you spend your whole life giving yourself away when you haven’t even figured our who you are.

Forgetting Fiction
The reason most of us haven’t found the love we desire is because it doesn’t exist. A spouse should complement and not complete you. No person deserves to be held responsible for that burden, when the bible tells us that flesh will fail us. We are humans and any ideal notion that has clouded our judgement needs to be expelled from our minds. As long as we hold onto fairy tale notions of love, our satisfaction with relationships will be as real as they are.

<strong>Damsels in distress
I get the appeal of a big hero coming to rescue us from our demise and remaining in love with us forever. But guess what? That love story is real for us all. Jesus gave His life for you, remains with you, and will love you for all eternity!

Let’s dip into scripture and see what love really looks like.

Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love. (‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭13‬:‭4-7, 13‬ NASB)

Forget the fairy tales ladies, let’s accept the scriptural definition of love.
