Don’t call him my stepdad….

Many complications have risen from me saying “my daddy” and having to specify… But I could never get behind calling the man who raised me and loved me and sacrificed for me – my stepdad.

Yes, some say a step dad steps in but mine didn’t. He came running to my rescue, running to love me and to bring me flinstones vitamins and McDonald’s. He came running to stick around for me when things got rough. He came running to be my hero, before I ever recognized him as such. He came running when I was in trouble and my mother was ready to shut things down. He came running because I was his princess, to him – I’m too smart to make mistakes. In his eyes I’m too good of a girl to do anything wrong.:. And though his perception is one I have seldom lived up to, I now see how valuable he is.

He loved me so well, nobody ever questioned whether he was my real dad. He loves me, to this day with everything he has and I never feel like my thank you is enough. I don’t feel like my “I love you daddy” adequately states what my soul really means when I say it.

Thank you for accepting me.

Thank you for choosing to love me.

Thank you for making sacrifices for me, those I know about and those I don’t.

Thanks for being there whether I had a lizard that scared me or a little girl growing in my belly that did.

Thank you; not for stepping in but for running to my rescue.

Thank you for being my hero.

I love you daddy!

As her heart speaks…

Words do no justice

For as her heart speaks

Her soul cries out strength

Though her flesh is weak

Though emotions overtake her

And life seems to get her down

Jesus never leaves her

He’s always to be found

His love is her heart’s song

His grace a melody loud

His love is for the weary

His wrath is for the proud

Before her heart could cling to Him

Her soul must first release

The melody of old sin and shame

When at first her heart did speak

A new song she has been given

Of redemption and true love

She sings of things she never knew

Before she had His love

Her face upon the altar, her hand stretched toward the throne

Her heart now sings of hope

Born from His grace alone.

A heart like yours! (Day 72 – 100 Days of Singleness)

Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me. (‭Psalms‬ ‭51‬:‭5‬ NASB)

Being born again, means a rebirthing from our old sinful nature into a glorious and majestic being of love. We cannot serve Christ until we learn to love like Him.

Hide Your face from my sins And blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. (‭Psalms‬ ‭51‬:‭5, 9-10‬ NASB)

God will not withhold anything we request, if we seek God for a clean heart we will undoubtedly receive it. We need the heart of Christ, a heart that never wavers in it’s pursuit to love.

Sometimes I talk to God because I need to, I just need Him. Sometimes we won’t get the words right, we won’t know what to say – just talk. God doesn’t care how eloquent you are. He just wants to hear from you!

Tonight we pray, for a heart like God’s. One like Christ, one that is pure and full of love.

Dear God,
Gracious and everlasting Holy and one true God, I cry out to you. From the depths of my heart I ask for a heart like yours. Give me a heart that is willing to sacrifice like Abraham did. Give me a heart that is obedient and trusts you above all else like Moses did. May I take on a heart like Job, that believes in you through the testing and though all my possessions and my own family and body are in conflict against me. Give me a heart of repentance and praise. Give me a heart like yours and a hunger and thirst for your presence. You are the God who always was and always will be, the God that created me in His image of love and I ask now that you perfect your love in me. In Jesus name, amen.

Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. (‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭13‬:‭4-7‬ NASB)

May we live like you, love like you, forever.

Signed,
Your loving daughter
